Massage
What is Massage?
A simple definition from the Merriam-Webster Dictionary indicates that it is the action of rubbing pressing an individual’s body to help in the relaxing of the muscle (Merriam-Webster Staff, 2016). Because it helps in reducing pain from the muscles and joints (Merriam-Webster Staff, 2016). In other words, manipulating the muscles with the hands or instruments to accomplish this task (Merriam-Webster Staff, 2016). Therapy using a type of massage, or Massage Therapy, is the use of techniques to rid the muscle and joints of pain as well as relaxing the body.
Therefore, a person that trains to use this type of therapy is a Massage Therapist. The Northwestern Health Services University says that massage therapy is the manual manipulation of the soft tissue in the body (Northwestern Health Services University Staff, 2016). This includes the muscle, connective tissue, tendons and ligaments (Northwestern Health Services University Staff, 2016). An individual can reach the end-result of massage by the use of the different massage modalities.
There are many individual issues that a person needs help in resolving. A good massage therapist will know just which modality to use for each case. It is impotant to note that the amount of therapy need may vary due to the type of illness and its severity. This means that it may take two sessions for one person while it may take four or five for another.
Swedish
According to AMTA, the American Massage Therapy Association, Swedish as a modality is the traditional modality today (AMTA Staff, 2016). Swedish gets its name because a Swedish Doctor (Dr. Per Henrik Ling) developed it in the 1820s (AMTA Staff, 2016). Dr. Per Henrik Ling developed the Swedish modality by studying physiology, gymnastics, and all techniques that he studied (AMTA Staff, 2016). The techniques came from China, Egypt, Greece, and Rome (AMTA Staff, 2016).
Swedish works because massaging the skin sets up a chain reaction that creates positive results on all layers and systems of the body (AMTA Staff, 2016). As a result, this type of modality affects the nerves, muscle, glands, and circulation (AMTA Staff, 2016).
Deep Tissue
The Deep Tissue modality is a strongest type of Swedish. Because the Deep Tissue technique focuses on the muscles below the surface (AMTA Staff, 2016). Base on AMTA, Deep Tissue massage helps to relieve severe tension in the muscle and the connective tissue or fascia (AMTA Staff, 2016).
In conclusion
In conclusion, massage is a non-invasive alternative towards getting rid of muscle, and join pain as well as relaxing the body. Therefore, there is a chance that a modality exists that fits your issue.
